Philosophy

Domestic violence and sexual assault are crimes that not only affect the victims and their families, but society as a whole. They are rooted in a social structure that perpetuates the inequality of men and women in relationships. All people have the right not to be abused and interventions must hold abusers accountable through a coordinated community response.

• Crisis Hotline: 24 hour hotline to provide crisis intervention, support and problem solving, assistance with protection and safety plans, referrals to community resources, assistance in completing Relief from Abuse Orders, hospital emergency room support, and more.
• Advocacy: Resources and referrals, emotional support, and assistance for clients with community systems for legal, medical, and educational support, individual followup and support, limited transportation.
• Support Groups: Ongoing support groups for victims and survivors of sexual abuse and assault and domestic violence.
• Safe-Home Program: Women and children may receive safe, temporary emergency housing, including referral to out-of-county shelter programs for longer length stays.
• Children's Program: Playgroups and parent education around alternatives to violence.
• Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers fill various important roles within the program…hotline worker, transporter, advocate and safe-home provider. Training is provided.
• Public Education and Prevention: Includes school and community presentations on issues surrounding violence and special projects and events.
• Domestic Abuse Education Program: Voices Against Violence administers a six-month, court mandated educational group for men who batter women.
