Some people with intellectual disabilities rely on a network of family, friends, and services for transportation. If a person chooses not to inform their transportation provider(s) of their decision to seek services from your organization, they may not have alternative transportation available to meet with you. This is especially true if most of their transportation needs are generally handled by a developmental service agency or their family. In that case, it may not be possible for a person seeking services to meet with you at your location. You may offer to meet with the person at an alternative safe location, such as a library, that offers privacy. Another alternative is to work with the person primarily over the phone.
